December 2024: Thank you, Erwin Kniele - An era full of hard work, sweat and Upper Swabian inventiveness - A life's work
On 30 November 2024, a formative era in the history of Kniele GmbH in Bad Buchau will come to an end: our founder and long-standing Managing Director Erwin Kniele will retire from the three-person management team.
His sons Harald and Alexander Kniele, who have been with the company for over 30 years and already have management responsibility, take over the reins and continue the success story. With Felix and Joris Kniele, the third generation is already in the starting blocks to lead the family business into the future.
The origins of a visionary
Erwin Kniele began his professional career at Liebherr Mischtechnik in Bad Schussenried, where, as a structural engineer, he discovered his passion for the construction of steel structures early on. The path to self-employment began with the further development of the ring-pan mixer. However, the mixing quality at the time left a lot to be desired, so hydraulically operated agitators had to be installed - an expensive and repair-prone solution.
With an approach that was as simple as it was ingenious, Erwin Kniele finally developed a compulsory mixer with two mechanically driven agitators, which is still in use today. This pioneering innovation also marked the start of his independence.
However, his inventive spirit had been with him long before he founded his own company. For example, he developed a bricklaying machine for the Anliker company with which complete brick walls could be prefabricated in the factory - another example of his pioneering ideas and technical innovations.
Milestones in the company's history
On 1 January 1991, Erwin and Lydia Kniele founded Kniele Baumaschinen GmbH. The company developed into an internationally recognised, family-run medium-sized enterprise. From the very beginning, not only the mixing plants, but also components such as scales, dosing flaps and weighing belts were developed and manufactured in-house.
A particular breakthrough came in 2001 with the development of the KNIELE KKM cone mixer. This patented technology - with its unique conical shape - revolutionised mixing technology and opened up new markets for Kniele. The conical mixer is not only convincing in the concrete industry, but is also used in recycling processes, the food industry and many other specialised areas.
For Erwin Kniele, Kniele Baumaschinen GmbH was always more than just a company - it was his life's work and purpose. With tireless commitment and a great deal of passion, he shaped and built up this company.
The inventive spirit remains
Even after his retirement from the day-to-day business, Erwin Kniele remains true to his passion. By developing new mixing technologies, researching innovative cleaning systems and registering further patents, he ensured the continuous innovative strength of today's Kniele GmbH.
On behalf of the entire workforce, family and business partners, we would like to thank you, Erwin, for almost 35 years of tireless commitment, visionary inventiveness and your example as the founding father of our company. Your inexhaustible commitment and your pioneering ideas will always be an inspiration to us. You have not only shaped a company, but also inspired many people. We look forward to continuing to benefit from your knowledge and support in the future.

December 2024: Innovative technology for the production of load weights
Load weights for high-voltage cables: Innovation in production with Kniele mixing technology
The production of load weights for tensioning high-voltage cables in rail transportation places high demands on materials and technology. These special weights not only have to be robust and reliable, but also manufactured under extreme conditions such as abrasion resistance and dosing accuracy. Planning for this challenging project began in 2022 and has now been implemented with a successful complete solution from a single source - thanks to the expertise of Kniele GmbH.
Successful mixing trials and decision in favor of Kniele
The path to a tailor-made solution began with mixing trials at Kniele. After the first tests, it was already clear that the combination of Kniele mixing technology and the special raw materials would meet the requirements. This successful collaboration led to the Austrian company Katzenberger opting for a Kniele mixer. What tipped the scales was not only the high quality of the mixers, but also the comprehensive overall solution from a single source that Kniele offered.
Innovative technology for the production of load weights
The production of loading weights relies on modern technology and precise dosing. The raw materials are filled into two big bag emptying stations for metal powder and mixed granulate, which are operated by crane systems. One of the stations is equipped with a buffer container to handle larger storage quantities efficiently. In addition, a silo for binding agents ensures a constant supply for production.
Dosing takes place via special screw conveyors that transport the material into a small mobile weighing container. This container can travel along the production line to three filling points, where it is precisely weighed with the raw materials. The high-resolution scales ensure precise measurement of the individual components.
After weighing, the mobile container is placed on the frame of the Kniele KKM100/150 conical mixer by crane. In the mixer, the metal powder is precisely mixed with the mixed granulate and binder. The dosing of the individual ingredients is controlled by a WMW dosing unit, which ensures precise quantity control.
The challenge of abrasiveness and logistics
One of the biggest challenges in this project was the abrasiveness of the metal powder, which is particularly resistant and abrasive. This placed particular demands on the storage, transportation and mixing of the material. In order to meet these requirements, specially designed systems were used that can handle the material efficiently and safely.
In addition to the technology, a mixer dedusting system was also installed to reduce fine dust during the mixing process. An admixture weigher from Würschum also ensures precise dosing of the additives to guarantee the quality and consistency of the mixture.
Future prospects and success for the infrastructure
Thanks to Kniele's innovative mixing technology and precise planning, Katzenberger was able to develop an efficient solution for producing the load weights. These not only help to improve the infrastructure, but also ensure that the high-voltage lines in rail traffic can be tensioned safely and efficiently.
We wish our customer Katzenberger every success for the future and look forward to further exciting projects! You can find more information on the Katzenberger website Katzenberger.

October 2024: Efficient waste disposal and better occupational safety: the new central filling system from KNIELE
The new central filling system from KNIELE for company Kessler & Co.
In industrial production, processes such as the plasma cutting of sheet steel generate considerable quantities of metallic waste in the form of dust and slag. This waste not only represents a health and safety risk, but also a challenge in terms of waste disposal. To tackle this problem and at the same time increase efficiency and safety in the workplace, KNIELE has developed an innovative central filling system in collaboration with Kessler&Co.
Challenge: Dust and waste during plasma cutting
Kessler&Co., a leading global manufacturer of truck axles, uses several plasma cutting systems that cut steel sheets around the clock. This cutting process produces large quantities of metallic waste, including dust and slag. To collect the waste, the individual machines are connected to extraction and filter systems that collect the waste in mobile containers. These containers were previously emptied manually with a forklift into open container troughs, which led to high levels of dust and safety risks for the workers.
The solution: Central filling system from KNIELE
With the new central filling system from KNIELE and a conversion of the filter systems from Dodek, this problem could be optimized. The central filling system ensures that the waste is filled into the container skips safely, efficiently and, above all, with little dust. The innovation comprises several components that automate the entire process and at the same time increase occupational safety and environmental protection.
Low-dust docking of the mobile containers
The mobile containers, which are connected to the individual filter systems and filled with slag, are placed on a substructure and connected with a pneumatic docking system. This ensures dust-free emptying and protects employees from hazardous dust exposure.
Wear-optimized screw conveyors and loading equipment
In order to transport the metal waste efficiently, wear-optimized screw conveyors are used, which transfer the waste into the container trough via a loading bellows. The fine filter dust is collected separately and also discharged into the skip via another loading bellows.
Partially automated emptying for greater efficiency
The new filling system partially automates the emptying process. A fill level indicator on the loading bellows ensures that the mobile containers are only emptied when the container skip is not yet full, which increases the efficiency of waste disposal.
